Situated in the Weaver Industrial Estate, the Stalbridge facility has operated on this site for many years. It plays an important role in the local chemical and pharmaceutical industry, supplying solvents to major local employers in the North West.
The Stalbridge facility distils and purifies commonly used waste solvents such as ethanol and toluene from the agrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. The distilled solvents are then returned to the market for use in manufacturing a wide range of products from screen wash to bio-diesel. The plant currently treats 21,000 tonnes of solvents each year, recycling 70%, which are returned to the market.
In comparison, it would take 150,000 barrels of crude oil to produce the same volume of solvents that the Stalbridge facility recovers through the distillation process. This is presently powered by fossil fuels, namely natural electricity and gas, sourced from the national grid.
Fossil fuel energy has a big environmental cost as well a growing financial one and Veolia is committed to find the best possible environmental solution for its needs.
